Revolutionary Lady
This fully assembled hand-built replica of the 18th century, 90-ton merchant sloop, Lady Washington, is a scale model of the first American vessel to reach Japan. Washington was the first American flagged vessel to round Cape Horn. It exhibits plank-on-frame construction. The front bowsprit and two large masts are connected securely using advanced rigging and lines knotted and fastened by hand. Metal anchors and a wooden rudder with metal propeller are visible on the front and rear of the ship. Details on the deck include hand-built lifeboat with ribs and planks, wooden cabin, wooden crane and many ornaments. The modern Lady Washington, which was constructed as a brig, was thoroughly researched and traditionally constructed by shipwrights in 1989. She is now a U.S. Coast Guard inspected and certified passenger sailing vessel. Over the years, she has appeared in several motion pictures and television; Pirates of the Caribbean, Star Trek: Generations, and Revolution.
